SOMEONE WITH HEART HAD A VISION
The vision of two families…

Soon after John’s injury in 2007, John and Tamie Wassen were overwhelmed and greatly appreciative of the outpouring of financial support from so many people. As they made their way through their own experience, a vision was born to do what they could to help other spinal cord injury patients who also need assistance. Through their therapy visits at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indianapolis, John and Tamie have met many people with spinal cord injuries who need assistance and for various reasons do not have the resources to get the help needed. Also, as John and Tamie live their own experience, they continue to identify areas of need not only for themselves but for others and have a desire to find remedies. Within a week of John’s injury, Jim and Skip Tennancour had a vision not only to raise funds for the Wassen family but to begin an organization of some sort to help other people with spinal cord injuries.

Jim immediately began seeking advice from various sources and during the summer of 2008 met with the Hendricks County Community Foundation. From there John and Tamie, Jim and Skip began brainstorming and molding their ideas together.

The visions of these two families have come together in what is known as the SCI Hope Fund which works in association with the Hendricks County Community Foundation. The mission is to assist individuals living with spinal cord injury and supporting research to eliminate paralysis.

The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indianapolis (RHI) is working in conjunction with the SCI Hope Fund to refer qualified individuals for grant assistance.
