SOMEONE WITH HEART HAD A VISION
The vision of two families…
Soon after John’s injury in 2007, John and Tamie Wassen were overwhelmed and greatly appreciative of the outpouring of financial support from so many people. As they made their way through their own experience, a vision was born to do what they could to help other spinal cord injury patients who also need assistance.
Within a week of John’s injury, Jim and Skip Tennancour had a vision not only to raise funds for the Wassen family but to begin an organization to help other people with spinal cord injuries.
The four of them immediately began seeking advice from various sources and during the summer of 2008 met with the Hendricks County Community Foundation. From there John and Tamie, Jim and Skip began brainstorming and molding their ideas together.

The visions of these two families came together in what is known as the SCI Hope Fund which works in association with the Hendricks County Community Foundation. The mission is to assist individuals living with spinal cord injury to gain independence and quality of life.
The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indianapolis (RHI) is working in conjunction with the SCI Hope Fund to refer qualified individuals for grant assistance.

On January 29, 2011 John passed away from respiratory complications, leaving a legacy of admiration, hope and inspiration to many. John’s hope was to help as many people as possible until the day comes when research finds a cure for spinal cord injuries. In John’s honor, SCI Hope will continue its mission to spread this hope.
